Description
A delightful and rare all silver cayenne bottle & spoon. This unusual piece dates from early in the reign of King George V. The baluster shaped body has a flat base. The pull off lid has stepped decoration and a flame finial. Inside there is a fitted spoon. The bottle would have been for cayenne pepper, a condiment served at the table from the 18th Century into the 20th Century. Over the years it has been suggested that the small spoon and modest container was used for other (more nefarious and exotic) powdered substances, but this is open to debate. A lovely collector's piece. Dimensions below. Postage and packing £10.00 UK £18.00 Europe £22.00 Outside Europe Condition :- Excellent, with no dents or splits. Hallmarks :- Clear and readable, but with loss to Maker's mark. Both lid and body are marked. Date :- Birmingham 1912. Height :- 8 cms. Diameter :- 4 cms. (Widest point).
