Description
This is an exquisite Art Nouveau porcelain figurine titled "River Nymph in the Lily Pond," created by Ernst Wahliss in Turn-Teplitz, Bohemia, Austria, which is now Trnovany in the Czech Republic. The figurine depicts a serene maiden, chest-deep in water among lilies. She gazes peacefully at a lily bud in her hand, while a single yellow flower adorns her long flowing hair. The cream and pale green lily leaves floating on the water are highlighted with bronze gilt, adding an elegant touch. All details, from the contours of her face to her delicate fingers, are finely executed. Intriguingly, the surface of her hair, face, and other areas appear to be dusted with gold, visible only under magnification, giving the figurine a voluminous, glittering effect. The underside bears the grey Royal Vienna/Wahliss mark, complete with a crown. Functionality: This figurine could also serve as a decorative tray for small knick-knacks. About Ernst Wahliss: Born in 1836, Ernst Wahliss became a leading retailer of porcelain and ceramic goods in Vienna, opening his store in 1863. His business expanded across Europe, including London, supplying European royal families with high-quality ceramics. In 1894, he acquired the Alfred Stellmacher factory in Turn-Teplitz, renaming it Ernst Wahliss Kunst, Porzellan und Fayence Fabrik. His company gained recognition through exhibitions, producing a variety of fine wares. After Ernst's death in 1900, his sons continued the business, focusing on Vienna porcelain reproductions and expanding production. The factory ultimately closed in 1929. Dimensions: Length: 28 cm Width: 16 cm Height: 10 cm Condition: There is a crack across the bottom that extends partially across the top, and the little finger of the right hand is chipped. Otherwise, the figurine remains in excellent condition. Please examine the accompanying photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of this description. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. Kindly note that shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
