Description

Antique and beautiful set of two porcelain hand-painted figurines: a girl farmer and a boy gardener, made in Chelsea style. The girl holds a basket of eggs and flowers, while the boy gardener carries a garden knife in his hands. They are dressed in 18th-century clothing with gilded elements and feature very expressive faces. The artisan noted details such as the gold button buckles on the shoes and the gold clip on the hat. The pieces were entirely hand-decorated, later glazed, and fired. I have to say, the quality of the figures is amazing. The figurines bear a gold anchor mark, traditionally associated with the Chelsea company. This mark was used during the period 1756–1769.
However, it is difficult to attribute this piece to the original 18th-century Chelsea factory, as their designs were often quite distinctive. From our experience, we assume that these are very high-quality Chelsea copies. It is more likely that these high-quality figurines were marked in this way to enhance their market value. Nevertheless, the level of craftsmanship displayed in the figurines, with their meticulous attention to detail and the finesse of the painting, suggests that these are exceptional pieces made by highly skilled artisans. The elegance and precision of the decorative work imply that they were likely produced either in France or Germany. These are very respectable pieces for true collectors of decorative art.
Dimensions: Height 11 cm.
Condition:
Girl: Small chips on the petals of the flowers, small scuffs of gilding and paint, maintaining excellent antique condition.
Boy: Professional restoration of the brush on the right hand, minimal scuffs of paint and gilding consistent with the age, and the tip of the garden knife is chipped off.
