Description

Antique black forest match holder in the form of an old cobbled shoe. Between 1850-1900 The Tyrolean region of Switzerland and Austria specialised in producing small wooden / treen trinkets which were mostly sold as souvenirs to tourists. The popularity of Cook's tours in the 1850s opened up the Alpine region of central Europe and had a powerful effect on local woodworking industries. . This example of match holder carved in the shape of a child's boot shows a considerable degree of accuracy in its detail. Matches stand up inside. Great condition. Pre 1890.
Condition Issues no splits/cracks but some abrasions to the original paint from 120 year+ life Includes UK delivery
