Description
With a pierced bowl, engraved lattice and Greek key decoration this is a handsome George III silver caddy spoon by Joseph Taylor, made in Birmingham in 1807. Joseph Taylor specialised in small pieces and objects of vertu, such as caddy spoons, watch cases, card cases and vinaigrettes. He is recorded as working between 1773 and 1827 at 35 Newhall Street in Birmingham, and Bouverie Street in London. After his death, his brother, John Taylor, and brother-in-law, John Perry, took over the business. The silver caddy presents IT, the Lion passant, the Birmingham assay mark, and date letter “j” for 1807.
