Description
This is a nice Victorian silver caddy spoon with a beautifully twisted rope handle and some initials to the reverse of the bowl. Its quality is revealed by a heavier weight (20 g) than many of the earlier Georgian examples. It was made by the renowned silversmith Henry Holland of London in 1867. The firm traces back its origins to 1838. In 1888, his son, Henry Holland Junior, will enter a partnership with Aldwinckle and Slater, becoming what was known as Holland, Aldwinckle and Slater. The firm operated until 1932. The silver caddy presents HH, the Lion passant, the London assay mark, and date letter “m” for 1867.
