Description
This small silhouette has been reverse painted on glass and indeed when one looks at the detail, one can see the scrapping away of the paint to give definition to the clothing and the cap and small silver highlight. Underneath the silhouette is what looks like a signature, which one cannot see completely as it is slightly hidden by the frame, and I would think this would be the signature of the sitter not the artist. I would imagine t would date to the early 1800s from the clothing of the sitter. The silhouette sits in a wooden frame which has been painted with what could possibly be a black lacquer. * AGE - Circa 1810 * CONDITION - The silhouette is in very good condition, the glass still clear with no scratches. The frame too is in good condition but the lacquer has worn slightly with age. There is a tear to the brown paper on the back of the frame. * DIMENSIONS (Approx) - Framed - Height - 5" / 12.5cm, Width 4" / 10cm, Depth 1/3"/ 0.75cm. Unframed - Height 2&1/4" / 6cm, Width 1&1/4" / 3.5 cm * POSTAGE - All items include the cost of packing and postage to the UK. I send my items both Tracked & Signed For with Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Service.
