Description

This plain horn beaker is wonderfully elevated by the naive scratched engravings of a Seaman proudly holding his Union Jack and leaning on an Anchor and Britannia with her trusted Lion with a Clipper Ship between them decorating the outside. The beaker would I imagine date to the beginning of the Victorian era, and is typical of the shapes one associates with the horn hunting beakers of this period, but of course the decoration on this beaker is associated with the Sea. The engraving is completely charming with gentle humour. And wonderfully the colour of the horn of the beaker is very light which allows the details of those divine scratched engraving stand out.

CONDITION - The beaker is in very good condition with no chips to the horn. It has obviously darkened with age and on the inside there are some dark line marks.

DIMENSIONS (Approx) - Height 11cm, Diameter at Rim 8cm, Diameter at Base 5.5cm
