Description

This is an antique sterling silver sugar caster, also known as a sugar shaker, dating to the mid-19th century. The piece features a classical urn-shaped design, elegantly balanced on a pedestal base, with detailed engraving of scrollwork and floral patterns. The domed lid includes pierced holes for dispensing and is topped with a finial. The engraved initials and date on the body suggest it was likely a commemorative or personal gift, reflecting the craftsmanship and artistry of the Victorian silver-making tradition.
Made by the renowned silversmith George Unite, the piece is fully hallmarked for Birmingham, 1857. Unite produced an impressive range of high-quality silverware, and this item is an excellent example of his work.
