Description
A handsome silver trinket dish in modernist design, made by the great A.E Jones. This quality example is stylishly and tactfully crafted in a long slender boat shape design, perfectly balanced to the centre point. The underside is planished in the arts and crafts taste and the silver is of good gauge. The dish features full hallmarks, along with the retailers mark and the designers signature of Geoffrey G. Bellamy. Bellamy designed for A.E Jones in Birmingham during the late 1950s and early 1960s, winning a Design Centre Award in 1961. He was greatly influenced by Scandinavian design and, although evident, this dish is also typical of the emerging contemporary post-war British design that is synonymous with Bellamy’s work.
