Description
An antique hand-painted porcelain potpourri vase with a lid, crafted by Sitzendorf, Germany, in the late 19th century. This exquisite piece features an oval-shaped body with Rococo-style handles, an ornate floral design, and applied decorations. The lid is crowned with a cherub figure, surrounded by hand-painted polychrome flowers. The vase stands on a tripod scrolled-foot base, adorned with applied flowers, each meticulously crafted individually by hand. These delicate floral elements are remarkably well-preserved, adding to the vase’s stunning visual appeal, which more than compensates for some minor damage noted below. This piece is a masterpiece of artistry, an eye-catching statement piece that will be treasured by collectors and admirers of 19th-century German porcelain. Sitzendorf Porcelain was founded in 1850 in Sitzendorf, Thuringia, Germany—a region renowned for its rich kaolin deposits, essential for porcelain production. The factory emerged during a period when Thuringia became a major hub for European porcelain craftsmanship. Sitzendorf gained fame for its figurines, though the company also produced vases, cups, plates, and other decorative objects, often adorned with hand-painted designs and gold accents. The late 19th and early 20th centuries marked the golden age of Sitzendorf, during which it received international acclaim for its high-quality porcelain and exceptional craftsmanship. Collectors today consider figurines produced up to 1932 among the most valuable. Dimensions: Height: 29.8 cm Width: 16.5 cm Depth: 15 cm Weight: 1145 grams Condition: The vase consists of four parts: the base, middle section, upper section, and lid. The joints between these sections are visible. The cherub’s left arm is chipped at the elbow and repaired at the shoulder. The right hand is missing a thumb, and the flower he was holding is chipped. The big toe on the cherub’s right foot is chipped. Minor damage to some floral decorations. Otherwise, in good antique condition. Please carefully examine the accompanying photographs, as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to assist you. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. Please note that shipping costs include labor, packaging, and postage.
