Description

An antique hand-painted porcelain potpourri vase with a lid, crafted by Sitzendorf, Germany, in the late 19th century. This exquisite piece features an oval-shaped body with Rococo-style handles, an ornate floral design, and applied decorations.
The lid is crowned with a cherub figure, surrounded by hand-painted polychrome flowers. The vase stands on a tripod scrolled-foot base, adorned with applied flowers, each meticulously crafted individually by hand. These delicate floral elements are remarkably well-preserved, adding to the vase’s stunning visual appeal, which more than compensates for some minor damage noted below.
This piece is a masterpiece of artistry, an eye-catching statement piece that will be treasured by collectors and admirers of 19th-century German porcelain.
Sitzendorf Porcelain was founded in 1850 in Sitzendorf, Thuringia, Germany—a region renowned for its rich kaolin deposits, essential for porcelain production. The factory emerged during a period when Thuringia became a major hub for European porcelain craftsmanship.
Sitzendorf gained fame for its figurines, though the company also produced vases, cups, plates, and other decorative objects, often adorned with hand-painted designs and gold accents. The late 19th and early 20th centuries marked the golden age of Sitzendorf, during which it received international acclaim for its high-quality porcelain and exceptional craftsmanship. Collectors today consider figurines produced up to 1932 among the most valuable.
