Description

This unusual Victorian silver & amber glass inkwell was made by the renowned maker John Grinsell and is dated London 1897. The heavy circular sliced-cut glass base mounted with a fully hallmarked silver hinged lid. The lid with wrythen decorations surrounding a vacant roundel. The inner lid gilt and the inkwell with inner glass receptacle. The underside with star cut base.
Hallmarks:
JG&S for John Grinsell & Sons
London Assay Mark.
Lion Passant.
Date letter "b" for 1897.

Height: 6.5cm / 2.4 inches.
Diameter:8cm / 3.2 inches.
Condition:
Good.
No dings or dents.
Glass in very good condition.
Stong hinge.
Silver lid with a sight downward curve.
Good set of hallmarks.
