Description
This Dear Peg Doll is I believe a Victorian example dating to circa 1890. Her head has been white washed on top of which details of her face have been painted and how I love those two little dots just under her pointy little nose and above her rosebud mouth which I imagine portray the vertical grove known as the Philtrum and she is a lovely size measuring approx 28cm in height. These dolls are sometimes also known as Grodenertal Dolls which were produced in this region in Germany or also Dutch Dolls, but I think this one is likely to be English when they became popular from the 1860's. The dolls were produced cheaply for children to play with and were most often sold without clothes with the child or the parent making a wardrobe for her. And this is what I think has happened to this doll, although the clothes she is dressed in now were made many years later than the doll. But trust me her clothes have been made lovingly and beautifully made by someone with a great eye for detail. She has a blue floral dress, over which there is a white apron, her petticoat (which I have photographed in), under which there is a smaller one as well as her bloomers. All of which apart from maybe the bloomers have tiny little buttons which can be undone which I hope you can see in the photos, and all are finished off with lace detail around the hems and some necklines. I didn't want to keep buttoning and un-buttoning the clothes for fear of stretching the tiny button holes so I have kept her in her petticoat and oh yes, she also has a Mop Cap, which may be there as there is a split in the side of her head but for me there is absolutely no need to cover it. * AGE - Doll - Circa 1860, Clothes circa 2000 * CONDITION - She is in good condition. Her limbs do move but they are a lot freer on her right hand side as I look at her with her arm, elbow and her knee joint being stiff resisting movement on the other other side, although I have been very gentle with them. She has as I have already mentioned above a split in the wood at the side of her head as well as some rubbing of her painted hair which can be seen in the ninth photo. I have only undressed her as far as the petticoat she is photographed in. Her dress, apron and mop cap appear less fresh than her other clothes as I guess she has been wearing them for quite a while. * DIMENSIONS (Approx) - Height 11" / 28cm, Width 3&1/2" / 9cm, Depth 2" / 5cm * POSTAGE - £12.00 UK I send my items both Tracked & Signed For with Royal Mail’s Special Delivery Service.
