Description

I believe this to be a vintage Japanese Folk Toy, dating to the 1930's. The trio and the bar they are hanging from are all made from wood and when you turn the handles they swing round admirably with their little legs swinging in the air. Each of the trio look to be individually hand painted with wonderful large eyes above which their black eyebrows give them a real expression of surprise and their small red lips make them appear like they are giggling with joy. Although each gymnast wears the same costume a buttoned down top with what looks like a bow around their necks and stripy little hats they each are painted in a different colour way

CONDITION - I have to say the three of them are in very good condition as is the bar they hang from and every time I turn that handle they swing round that bar perfectly. I do imagine that the colours of their outfits have dimmed over time, but the black and red paint of their faces is still strong and maybe the wood of the bar as in the years of standing lost a little of its sheen. I would say this little vintage toy is not really suitable for young children.
