Description

1930s West End Watch Co Philos wrist watch.
The watch has a hand-winding movement, believed to be Gruen for West End, which is working nicely. The movement is signed with the West End logo.
The watch measures 37mm diameter excluding the winding crown and the fixed wire lugs. The case is nickel with a silver bezel, and it is all in good condition with just the odd small mark, nothing serious at all.
The glass lens is in good condition, just a couple of small chips to the bevel, not too noticeable to the naked eye.
The dial is signed West End Watch Co, Philos, a name registered in 1915. The dial also has the names Bombay and Calcutta.
The West End Watch Company was set up to export Swiss watches to India, with offices in Switzerland, Bombay and Calcutta. The company supplied the Indian Civil Service, Indian Railways and 50,000 wristwatches for the soldiers of the British Indian Army who were fighting in Iraq.
The dial has its original hands. There are a couple of faint hairlines but they are difficult to see with the naked eye.
A later leather strap has been fitted.
The watch comes in a new presentation box.

Due to Customs regulations, we are unable to send watches / precious metals to certain countries. If you are unsure about your country’s regulations, please contact us and we can check for you. Any orders from prohibited countries will be refunded, less any Paypal fees which are non-refundable.
All of our watches are checked over before listing, and are also checked for accuracy which is usually within around +/- two to three minutes over 24 hours (unless otherwise stated), which is considered respectable for a vintage watch.
We are a VAT registered company and all purchases are covered by Consumer Regulations.
