Description
A large oak stationery box dating from the late 19th / early 20th Century. It has two inset brass carrying handles and a brass escutcheon with its original key. The front hinges down to reveal a series of inner letter racks and two small drawers. pen tray and glass inkwell. The front has a lovely writing leather with gilt tooled edge which provides a nice sloped writing surface when the front is down. There is a small drawer to the side which contains a pen tray and space for two inkwells. The cabinet has a retailer's plaque on the reverse "From JAS. SHOOLBRED & Co, Tottenham Ct Rd, London". It is in good condition overall although there are some signs of age and use. The wood around the keyhole has been repaired, there is a small shrinkage split in the top and a couple of other small chips and marks but no major damages. The wood has developed a lovely patina and the interior is generally clean and tidy. It has been cleaned and gently polished and it is ready for use. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask. Tracked UK Delivery £20
