Description
A good quality mahjong set dating from the early to mid 20th Century. The pieces are made from bone and bamboo joined with a nicely cut dovetail joint and the symbols and pictures are finely carved into the bone. There is a complete set of 144 tiles, plus 4 spare blanks, 4 small dice and a large quantity of sticks. The tiles measure approx 30mm x 20mm x 10mm high. The tiles are kept in a specially made thick cardboard box with wooden trays for the tiles and accessories. It is a good quality box covered with a decorative Chinese style design. I think the box has been made later than the tiles themselves, perhaps made especially to fit the set. Regardless, it is good quality and strong and sturdy and stores the set well. The set itself is in good condition for its age. It has been used but very well looked after. There are general signs of wear and use and some discolouration on some of the pieces but no major damages and the joints are in good order. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask. Tracked UK Delivery £10
