Description

Very pretty early Derby porcelain relief moulded sauce boat with bold stylised leaves decorated in puce and bright green, and scroll shaped reserves edged in turquoise enamel. The centres are painted in the style of the "cotton stem painter" with floral sprays. Gadrooned style rim and generous loop handle with thumb rest. Patch marks to the base. c.1758-1760.
It measures 20cm (7 3/4") long, 10cm (4") wide and 11cm (4 3/8") high.
Condition is good with some points to note. The handle has been professionally repaired and restored near where it meets the body. There is a glaze frit to the tip of the thumb rest, a small chip to the foot and a further one underglaze. Inside the boat are some unusual firing faults causing bubbles to have risen in the clay but they do not show outside and the inside was still decorated with a floral spray in the base matching the decoration outside.
