Description
A very fine quality New Hall porcelain tea bowl of rare slightly waisted form with vertical fluting and scalloped rim. Painted with pattern number 148 with interlaced frieze of gilt dotted wave and red enamel feathers, sandwiched between gilt bands and intersected by four gilt laurel wreath framed roundels, centred with a star and mounted with a gilt and red enamel ribbon. Gilt bands around the foot, inside the rim, the rim itself and small gilt flower inside the base. Most New Hall fluted cups and tea bowls have 28 flutes, but these rare waisted forms are noted for only having 27. c.1785-1790. Reference: New Hall, Holgate. It measures 8.5cm (3 3/16") wide and 5.1cm (2") high. In excellent condition with no damage or repair and minimal handling wear. It is a lovely example without the excess bubbling in the glaze that often occurs with early New Hall and the glaze has a really lovely smooth silky feel to it. Payment is accepted by bank transfer, card payments (via an online invoice, I'm afraid we cannot take payments over the telephone), Paypal and UK personal cheque.
