Description

A documented and highly collectible Wedgwood lustre vase, pattern Z4832, designed by Daisy Makeig-Jones at the very beginning of her work for Wedgwood in 1914. This year marks the birth of her now-legendary approach to English Art Pottery, and examples from this first period are extremely scarce.
The vase is decorated with a unique mother-of-pearl opalescent glaze and hand-gilded butterflies—a combination highly prized for both aesthetic and investment potential. The pattern and finish are fully documented in Wedgwood records.
Decorative appeal largely compensates for the defect: there is a visible but stable crack to the upper neck/rim (see photographs). The crack does not dominate visually and does not reduce the strong overall presence.
British buyers are more sensitive to condition but value early, original Wedgwood—here, rarity, original finish and untouched pattern help preserve market value.
Height: 14 cm.
Marked Wedgwood Portland vase, Made in England, pattern Z4832.
