Description
An original antique miners lamp dating from the early 20th century. It has a maker's plaque which reads "Ackroyd & Best Ltd Makers. Hailwoods Improved Lamp. No.57. Type 0.1.6. Morley Leeds England". It has a hook at the top for hanging the lamp and the burner is protected by thick glass. The brass base unscrews to access the burner. This lamp is unusual because it is fitted with blue glass which I'm told was used by ARP wardens in WW2 to mark gas leaks during air raids because the blue light couldn't be seen by the planes. The lamp is in good original condition and displays well. It has clearly been used and as such there are signs of age and use, some tarnishing, some small dinks and dents and surface marks but no major damages. The lamp is untested and I have not had it burning with paraffin in, however the burner looks to be in good shape and I see no reason why it should not work as designed. The best description comes from the photos so please look at them all carefully and if you have any questions just ask. Tracked UK Delivery £8
