Description

A highly refined Coalport teacup and saucer in the rare 'Adelaide' shape, dating to the reign of William IV. This form—with its delicately scalloped rim, gilt Rococo-style scrolls, and rustic twig-form handle—is celebrated in Michael Messenger’s book on Coalport porcelain.
The beautifully hand-painted floral decoration is the work of Thomas Dixon, one of the most accomplished artists of the Coalport factory. As Geoffrey Godden records, Dixon was responsible for "most of the best flower painting" at Coalport from around 1820 until the 1870s.
Pattern no. 3/265 in gilt.
Dimensions: cup 6 cm high, 10.7 cm top diameter, saucer 14.7 cm diameter.
Condition: Excellent, without damage or restoration, without glaze crazing, a beautifully preserved example.
