Type of Artwork: Original 19th Century Etching – “Ninette” after Greuze Surface: Paper with visible plate mark, mounted Artist and Signature: Etched by Paul Rajon (1843–1888) After Jean-Baptiste Greuze (1725–1805) Unsigned, as issued (pre-lettered edition) Etching Details: This is an original 1886 etching titled Ninette, executed by the renowned French printmaker Paul Rajon after a composition by Jean-Baptiste Greuze. It is a beautifully detailed sanguine (reddish-brown) intaglio print, with fine line work and subtle tonal shading. It was published before lettering for inclusion in the Art Journal and appears to predates the later engraved version by Samuel Cousins in 1880. A striking and sensitive study of a young woman with a melancholy expression, her bodice open slightly at the neck, and ribbon tied loosely in her hair. Approximate age of artwork: Published over 135 years old (1886) Is the artwork Framed or Mounted: Currently mounted, unframed – ready for framing Size of artwork including mount (approx): 42 x 35 cm (mount aperture approx 26 x 19 cm) Condition Report: In good antique condition in line with age. Light foxing and soft toning as shown, mostly to the outer mount area. The image itself remains clean and crisp, with strong plate impression and tonal depth. No tears or repairs.
