Type of item: Original WWII Trench Art Ashtray – Crafted from 75mm Brass Shell Casing with an Irish Army Eight-Pointed Star Badge Material & Era: Brass casing dated 1941 with hand-finished details, WW2 British military era Features: This unique vintage ashtray has been crafted from a 75mm artillery shell casing, marked LOT 290 – 1941 – CF – CL/C, and features a central decorative badge with raised emblem – likely Irish military or regimental. A fine example of trench art, possibly soldier-made during or shortly after the Second World War. It offers historical and collector value, as well as a decorative and nostalgic wartime aesthetic. Shell Base Engraving Breakdown: 75 MM The calibre: 75 millimetres. Likely from a QF 75mm M18 field gun shell used in WWII. CL/C Manufacturer code: Canadian Industries Ltd, Chalk River / Quebec, Canada. LOT 290 Production lot number: Batch 290. CF Cartridge, Fixed — meaning the shell and case were one unit (not separate like older artillery). 1941 Date of manufacture: 1941, so early WWII. Broad Arrow (?) British government military property mark. Small arrow over 48 Likely an inspector’s or factory-specific mark. Size (approx): Diameter approx. 8.5 cm Condition Report: This piece is in good vintage condition with general age-related surface wear and patina.
