This work is by John Cuthbert Salmon (1844–1917), a British painter and watercolourist, member of the Royal West of England Academy (RWA). Salmon was active throughout the late Victorian and Edwardian periods and is known for his detailed river and town views across North Wales, the Scottish Borders, and northern England. His works are sought after for their romantic, yet finely observed quality
Approximate age of artwork: Circa Late 19th Century
Depiction or Location: A fine and atmospheric watercolour of Llangollen, North Wales, depicting the historic stone bridge over the River Dee with St Collen’s Church standing proudly in the background. Smoke rises from the chimneys of riverside cottages, and the rolling hills frame the picturesque townscape.
