Description

For sale is this pleasing oil on canvas painting by George Shaw (1843-1915). It is signed by the artist, lower left, in red paint. Shaw lived for most of his life in Devon and was known for his coastal scenes and views of Dartmoor and Exmoor. He mainly exhibited locally but was once accepted for a painting at the Royal Academy. The painting is framed in a silver gilt frame which measures about 17 by 28 1/2 inches. The canvas stretcher measures about 9 by 19 1/2 inches. Total weight is about 4 kilo grams. The painting is in good condition with a couple of paint flakes on the right hand margin. The gilded frame has some strip of gilding missing with the underneath gesso showing through.
