Description

For sale is this handsome antique Dutch Delft blue and white framed plaque. I would estimate it was made in the early part of the 20th century, around 1900. It is signed at the bottom of the plaque "Naar (or after) Fred. J. du Chattel." Frederick Jacobus van Rossum du Chattel (1856-1917) was an artist who was widely copied by Delft workshops but is typically associated with the De Porceleyne Fles, one of the premier pottery studios in the country. This scene depicts a small boat with a figure on a canal with trees and buildings. It is framed in a circular wood frame which measures about 10 3/4 inches in diameter. Total weight of plaque and frame is 975 grams. Condition is very good with no chips or cracks. Some minor glaze crazing typical of these pieces, and minor scratching to the wooden frame. Shipping will be free within the UK.
