Description
Meiji Period Japanese Bronze Oil Lamp c.1900 Offered for sale is a Meiji period Japanese bronze oil lamp in the Chinese taste, dating to circa 1900. The lamp is cast in patinated bronze with pierced fretwork panels and applied gilt brass roundels depicting stylised dragons. It stands on a decorative tripod base with scroll feet and a key-pattern frieze. Retains its original brass burner, stamped "Lampe Dite Electrique A.W. Bruxelles" and "Lampe Sans Suintement A.W. Déposé", indicating Belgian manufacture. The base has been drilled, presumably for electrical conversion at some point. There is a dent to the side of the font, and the original shade is not present. A decorative example of Meiji export metalwork combining Eastern motifs with European fittings. Origin: Japan Date: Circa 1900 Materials: Patinated bronze, gilt brass Height: 44 cm Condition: Age-related wear; drilled base; dent to font; shade absent Burner: Original A.W. Bruxelles burner retained All items offered by Treasure Trove Worcester Ltd are carefully selected for their authenticity, decorative appeal, and period character.
