Subject: A fine 19th century watercolour depicting a mother and child walking up a rustic village lane towards a square-towered church, with thatched cottages to the side and stormy skies above. Sunflowers add colour to the verge, creating a scene full of atmosphere and period charm.

About the Artist: Ferdinand Emilius Gröne RBA (1848–1920) was a British landscape painter of German descent, known for his evocative watercolours of village churches, cottages, and rustic English countryside. Elected to the Royal Society of British Artists, he exhibited widely during the late Victorian and Edwardian period. His works capture the atmospheric charm of rural England, particularly Essex and Suffolk, and remain sought after today at auction and in private collections.
