Description

A very decorative George V era handpainted and lacquered set of desk or tabletop shelves dating to c1920. The shelves design is based on the early 18thc style but revived and popular in the 1920s, featuring gilded wavy rims, cabriole feet and an inset gilded shell at the base. The top and sides are beautifully handpainted in oils with colourful floral bouquets, against the black lacquer background , and signed by the artist - possibly with the name Nanini or similar. This may be an Italian imported or European tour piece or an English piece painted locally. Either way it’s a decorative and useful item, in good condition for its age and use.
