Description
Tomlins’ History of England – 6 Volume Set (c.1840s) A mid-19th century six-volume set of A History of England, compiled and arranged by F.G. Tomlins, and published in London by John Kendrick. The work, drawing on the writings of Rapin, Hume, Smollett, Belsham, Lingard, Hallam, Brodie and others, was originally issued in three volumes but here bound in six parts (Volumes I–III each divided into two). Bound in red half leather with gilt tooling and black title labels, together with marbled boards, edges and endpapers. Illustrated throughout with engraved portraits within decorative printed borders. Condition: Considerable wear to the bindings with rubbing and scuffing to the leather, losses to the head and tail of the spines, and one board detached. Hinges cracked with some looseness to the text blocks. Marbled boards rubbed with surface wear. Text with age-related foxing, spotting and occasional damp marking. Some creases and small tears, including damage to one title page, but contents largely complete and legible. A usable reference set with decorative shelf appeal despite wear. Dimensions: 16 cm x 24.5 cm All items offered by Treasure Trove Worcester Ltd are carefully selected for their authenticity, decorative appeal, and period character. We specialise in antique and vintage pieces sourced with a knowledgeable eye, and we aim to provide accurate descriptions and detailed photographs for every item. Our stock is available to view by appointment at our Worcester showrooms, and we are happy to provide further information or additional images on request.
