Description
A very attractive George III silver mug of baluster form with engraved reeded band around the neck and set on a stepped and reeded collet foot. A very striking decorative handle, beautifully curved with a squared off top cast with an ornate stylised acanthus leaf moulding. Reeding down the back and a smaller acanthus leaf type moulding towards the lower terminal. Hallmarked for London 1817, makers Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard. It measures 9.5cm (3 3/4") high, 11cm (4 1/4") rim to handle and 7.5cm (3") across the body. It weighs 181g/5.8ozt. It has a capacity of just over 1/2 a pint (300ml). Condition is excellent with no damage, dents or repairs. Handling wear is very minor, slight rubbing to the edge of the hallmarks from polishing but no scratches or dings. There is currently an engraved dedication to the front which could be polished out if desired.
