Henry John Yeend King (1855–1924) — Brief Bio
Born in London on 21 August 1855. Early training: he attended a Philological School in London and then apprenticed with a glass-painting workshop (O’Connor’s) for about three years. Further art education: he studied under William Bromley in London, and later in Paris with Léon Bonnat and Fernand Cormon. Career & style: He became known for picturesque rural English landscapes and genre scenes, often with young women in pastoral settings. His approach blends realism and a light, atmospheric sensibility — sometimes compared to French Realist influence, though more restrained. Exhibitions & affiliations: He exhibited at institutions in England; his work was well received in his day. (Later market shows confirm continuing interest.)
