Description

'Scientific Lectures; by Sir John Lubbock, published 1879 by Macmillan & Co.
Sir John Lubbock was a British archaeologist and amateur naturalist. He is perhaps best known for his research into the stone age, coining the terms ‘Palaeolithic’ and ‘Neolithic’. In 1874, Lubbock published Scientific Lectures, a collection of lectures delivered on his dual passions. The book contained lectures on botany, entomology and prehistory. This second edition was published in 1879 with a third printed in 1906.
This volume is fully bound in tan calf leather with armorial of King Edward IV School, Grantham in gilt to the front board. Five raised bands and gilt decoration to the spine. Marbled page edges. Light shelf wear to the extremities and areas of discolouration to the front board.
Tight binding. Marbled endpapers. Prize plate to front pastedown. Some spotting to the preliminary pages but clean and bright thereafter.
