Description

This is a fine example of a solid sterling silver pap boat, dating from the reign of George III.
It is clearly hallmarked for London 1813. The maker's mark its slightly smudged and thus indecipherable. The gadrooned border is raised at the back and it is in a good overall condition with a few small knocks, but nothing more than would be expected of an item of this age.
These 'boats' were used to feed the elderly, infirm and young with 'pap', a type of gruel.
