Description

A most unusual cut glass novelty biscuit barrel dating from the 1830's and formed to represent a melon. The ovoid body is extensively cut with strawberry diamonds and vertical cut panels. The rim is cut into 'leaves' and the lid has matching cutting with a 'stem' terminal. Novelty pieces from this era are much in demand and this lovely piece, as decorative as it is practical. Condition :- Excellent, with no chips or cracks to the glass. The lid fits well.
Date :- c1830.
Origin :- English.
Height :- 23.5 cms.
Diameter :- 14 cms. (widest point).
