Description
A watercolour painting of Polperro in Cornwall by Lewis Mortimer (1877 - 1955). He was mainly active as an artist between 1900 and 1930, and painted scenes from the coasts of Cornwall, Devon and Dorset. This beautiful understated watercolour of Polperro harbour is presented in a painted frame and is ready to hang. Lewis Mortimer was one of three early twentieth century artists whose watercolour scenes were used in the publication ‘Picturesque Cornwall’ by Reginald Hammond - the other artists were George Nicholls and H J Sylvester Stannard. It is known that Mortimer spent time in Polperro in the 1920’s, so this painting most likely dates from that period. Condition: There are a couple of very tiny scuffs to the frame, and a small slightly wrinkled area on the mount. The painting itself is in very good condition. Dimensions: Including the frame, 53.5cm wide, 44.5cm tall, 2.8cm deep. The image size is approximately 33.2cm wide by 23.2 cm tall.
