Description

Antique silver Elgin pocket watch, 1889.
The watch has a 7-jewel grade 96 stem-winding movement which is working nicely. The movement is fully signed and it has the serial number 3,445,319 which dates it back to 1889. The movement is protected by an inner hinged cover.
The watch is slightly larger than a standard 50mm pocket watch, it measures 57mm diameter excluding the winding stem and the loop. The case is coin silver, a 90% silver alloy that was historically used for minting coins and creating silverware. The case has decoration to the front and back although this has worn back over the years. There is also some unevenness to the front and back.
The winding crown pushes in to open the front cover. Inside, there is a glass lens which is in lovely condition.
The signed dial looks good to the naked eye… on closer examination, there are a few faint hairlines. The hands are lever set (one of the hands is a period replacement).
The watch comes in a new presentation box.
