Description

Technical Description
An excellent example of an 18th century glass linen smoother.
It has a large thick concave mushroom dome head with a large, flattened ball knop handle with a polished pontil at the end.
Linen smoothers were used from the 16th century to smooth wet linen and starch collars and cuffs, and although the handled examples are considered to be later in the 18th and 19th century, there is very little in social history re when these glass examples and their styles were used. The colour, weight and handle design would point to the mid 18th century.

Excellent, No chips cracks or restoration. Wear to the flat underside as expected.
