Surface: Paper
Signed: Revd Laurence George Bomford (British 1847-1926)
Artist Biography:
Revd Laurence George Bomford (1847–1926)
Bomford was a clergyman, scholar and skilled amateur landscape painter. Educated at Epsom College and at Cambridge, he developed a lifelong interest in theology and the natural world. His paintings—often focused on rivers, wooded valleys and rural quiet—were created with a gentle, careful eye for light and detail. Bomford’s works appear in private country house collections and still surface in regional auction rooms, where his best watercolours remain popular for their peaceful atmosphere and Victorian charm.
Approximate age of artwork: Dated 1880
Depiction or Location: A beautifully observed Devon river scene along the River Teign. Bomford captures the soft light across moving water, large boulders and overhanging trees, with a lone figure seated by the rocks. A calm, atmospheric Victorian landscape with excellent natural colour.
Is the artwork Framed or Mounted: Framed, included free of charge (see notes below).
