Born in Coventry, Warwickshire in 1923, he was a watercolour and illustrator working for Look and Learn children's newspaper and the Eagle Magazine between 1950 and 1969. His subjects were many and varied including shipping, nature studies, old bi-planes, retrospective motoring, cricket, tennis and golf subjects, as well as Edwardian street views. He married Joyce Lovell in 1948 and went on to work in the motor industry designing car bodies. Ashmore was part of a group of designers which created a prototype model of the Car of the Future for the 1951 Festival of Britain.
Peter Ashmore eventually became a visiting lecturer at the Royal College of art in London.
