Description

An extremely rare & collectable William IV Silver and Tortoiseshell cased Fleam set hallmarked for Birmingham 1834 by Taylor & Perry.
The outside of the case has chased floral decoration, enclosing 2 tortoiseshell & steel Fleams. The fleams are two folding lancet knives used primarily by vets (and sometimes doctors!) during the regency era, for then, the common medical practice of blood letting, especially on horses and livestock, but sometimes on humans too.
Measuring 6 cm x 2.5 cm with a combined weight of 25 grams.
In very good antique condition, hallmarks are very good, cartouche to the front has the initials DC, the case shuts well but there is a little movement in the hinge, there are a few small dings/dents and usual small signs of wear commensurate of age and use.
A very nice early period piece.
