Description
Type of item: Antique Japanese Imari porcelain bowl Origin: Japan Date: Late 19th century, Edo / early Meiji period (circa 1880–1900) Material: Porcelain Decoration: Hand-painted in underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red and green enamels. Description: A decorative antique Japanese Imari porcelain bowl with a gently scalloped rim, dating from the late 19th century. The interior is centred with a stylised basket of flowers painted in cobalt blue and iron red, surrounded by alternating panels of fans, floral motifs, and scrolling foliage in classic Imari colours. The exterior continues the bold iron-red and green palette, with confident brushwork and a pleasing rhythm around the bowl. The overall form and decoration are typical of good-quality Imari ware produced for export during this period. The base is unmarked, as expected for Imari porcelain of this age. Condition: There is a small chip to the rim, visible in the photographs, along with light surface wear consistent with age and use. No cracks or repairs noted. The bowl remains structurally sound and displays well despite this minor flaw. Please examine the images carefully as they form part of the description.
