Description
Type of artwork: Original Oil Painting Artist: Signed with monogram M.H. - Majorie Hoare Marjorie Hoare (d. 1953) was a British painter working primarily in oil and watercolour during the first half of the 20th century. She studied at the Slade School of Art under Henry Tonks, and later continued her training under Franklin White at the Samuel Palmer School, Shoreham. Hoare exhibited at a number of respected institutions, including the Royal Academy, the New English Art Club, and the R.H.A., as well as in regional exhibitions throughout Britain. Her work is characterised by a sensitive handling of light, strong compositional structure, and a particular affection for architectural settings and rural life, often painted during travels in France and the provinces. Although not widely represented at major auction houses today, her work is increasingly appreciated by private collectors for its training pedigree, honest painterly quality, and quietly confident observation. Medium: Oil on canvas Surface: Canvas Subject: A sunlit Provençal courtyard scene showing a rustic stone house set among mature trees, with goats grazing in the foreground and a solitary figure standing near the centre of the composition. The painting is warm and gently observed, with confident brushwork and a natural, harmonious palette capturing light, shade, and rural calm. Architectural details, foliage, and animal forms are handled with sensitivity and balance, giving the work both narrative charm and strong decorative appeal. Approximate age of artwork: Not Dated Circa 1920s–1940s Is the artwork framed: Frames, as shown (Offered Free with the Painting) Condition report: The piece is considered to be in good condition, one small repair patch visible verso.
