Swiss Jura Lakeside Town - 19th Century Watercolour
A finely executed 19th-century continental watercolour depicting a lakeside town in the Swiss Jura region, possibly La Neuveville on the northern shore of Lake Biel. The scene shows characteristic timber galleries and waterfront buildings constructed directly over the water, with gently rising Jura foothills in the background. The work is confidently drawn with visible pencil underdrawing and delicate, controlled watercolour washes, typical of mid-19th-century professional or semi-professional European landscape artists working for private collectors or Grand Tour travellers. The palette is restrained and atmospheric, with careful attention to architectural detail and perspective. The watercolour is presented on paper, housed within its original or early mount. The mount bears period inscriptions including a reference to the Jura region and collection notes.
