Description
This porcelain cabinet figure was produced by the Royal Worcester Porcelain Works in the mid-1890s within James Hadley’s Egyptian-themed series of sculptural subjects. The model was originally designed as a tambourine player (model 1084), inspired by the period’s taste for classical and Orientalist imagery. It is executed in the factory’s warm ivory-toned porcelain body, typical of Worcester’s sculptural output of the decade. The figure now displays a vessel replacing the original instrument, introduced during a professional restoration and harmonised with the original modelling. The impressed HADLEY mark is positioned to the side of the base, with the factory model number and registration mark for 1895 beneath. Figures of this scale and authorship form part of Royal Worcester’s most sought-after late Victorian sculptural production. Dimensions: height 23 cm, width 10 cm, depth 10 cm Weight: 534 g Condition: The left arm has been professionally restored and the original tambourine replaced with a vessel; under UV light, restoration is also visible to the face. The figure otherwise appears in good antique condition. Please study the accompanying photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of this description. If you have any questions, we will be happy to answer them. The item will be shipped with full tracking and insurance. It is important to note that shipping costs include labour, packaging and postage. Internal Ref: B1645
