A walnut cased campaign kit shaving mirror The rectangular case opens to a rectangular shaving mirror with ebony and boxwood stringing and a brass stud that locates into a hole when closed, the hole can be used to hang the mirror - there is a burn mark to the frame edge which no doubt occurred when it was being used on campaign to shave by candlelight and the flame scorched the frame edge. The frame folding out to form an easel and closes to protect the looking glass. English, circa 1840-1880 Folding campaign mirrors, used by the military when in the field for shaving and generally keeping up appearances, they fold flat to make them portable.
