Description
A charming and collectable piece of sewing ware, dating to the mid 19th Century. This lovely silver awl is used to pierce, punch holes in, and sew heavy materials like leather, canvas, and upholstery. This particular example originates from the Netherlands and comes complete with its original outer sheath. The awl and sheath are both hallmarked with the sword mark, along with a makers mark to the awl. To the top of the awl is a octagonal loop for attaching to a chatelaine and the body of the sheath is hexagon is shape, with delightful engraved details to all sides. The awl has a screw thread, allowing it to be securely located into the sheath to avoid loss. A lovely and usable piece of silverware. Dimensions below.
