Description
Lectures On The Philosophy Of The Mind by Dr. Thomas Brown (1778-1820). Complete in four volumes. Published by William Tait, Edinburgh, 1846. Ex-libris. All four volumes are bound in a black blind-stamped cloth with gilt-stamped title and author to the spine. Each volume has a removable protective cover. The boards show shelf wear, volume III more so than the others with damage to the front board evident (please see photographs). All bindings remain tight. There are some small numerical inscriptions to the beginning of Volume I. There is browning to the preliminary pages. The text itself remains clear and bright. A scarce set. SYNOPSIS At the time of his death in 1820, and for some decades afterwards, Thomas Brown was a hugely celebrated philosopher. Lectures on the Philosophy of the Human Mind (1822) is a foundational philosophical work that explores consciousness, perceptions, emotion and moral philosophy. It analyses mental phenomena through observation rather than just abstract theory, making it highly influential in the history of psychology. The lectures were praised for their clarity and popularity at the time, bridging metaphysics with human experience.
