Description

A lovely late Regency porcelain teacup and saucer in the London or Grecian shape. Painted with a stylised oriental scene of a garden with rocks, a small fence and flowering plants, lotus and bamboo. Painted in a kakiemon type palette with underglaze blue, pale blue, soft iron red, green and turquoise enamel and bold gilt accents. Finished with a gilt and underglaze blue patterned border and gilded handle. A paired down version of the scene runs as a frieze to the outside of the cup. This pattern is also seen on Charles Bourne pieces under pattern number 233. Unmarked, most probably Ridgway, c.1820.
The cup measures 8.8cm (3 1/2") wide and 5.6cm (2 3/16") high and the saucer measures 13.6cm (5 3/8") wide.
In excellent condition with no damage or repair. The saucer has a very fine glaze line to the rim that is too fine to show in photographs. The surface of both pieces is very finely crazed from manufacture. Minimal handling wear.
